On August 1, 2002 Officer Melissa Schmidt was shot and killed as she checked the report of a person armed with a gun. She proudly served the citizens of Minneapolis as a police officer and prior to becoming an officer she served her country in the United States Marine Corp.

This Year’s tournament was a huge success! Thanks to all who participated and contributed! Next year’s tournament is scheduled for Wednesday August 3, 2011: hope to see you all there again!

Announcing the MAWP 48th Annual Spring Training Conference!
This year’s training was one-day and was held at the Roseville Skating Center on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010. Following the one-day training was our Annual Awards Banquet.

Nominations were open for the 2010 Minnesota Association of Women Police awards such as Officer of the Year. The deadline for nominations is March 6, 2010. The award application details and documents can be located on our awards page at http://mnwomenpolice.org/?page_id=7 ATTENTION! Currently the 2009 aeard documents can be applied for 2010 award nominations. Although the 2009 award documents say to contact Molly Lynch with any questions, please email Stefanie Hennen at shennen@ci.hopkins.mn.us or Maureen Sikorra at maureen.sikorra@ci.roseville.mn.us and NOT Molly Lynch! Thanks!

The 47th Annual MAWP Spring Training Conference was held April 22-24, 2009 at Grand View Lodge in Nisswa, Minnesota. The conference committee was busy planning the training for this years conference. The Minnesota Association of Women Police accepted scholarship applications until March 1st. Scholarships will be awarded in April 2009. All current law enforcement students are eligible to apply for the Karen Rice and Melissa Schmidt Memorial Scholarships which provide financial assistance for law enforcement training. I.A.W.P. Conference 2010

The Minneapolis Police Department in conjuntion with M.A.W.P. will be hosting the International Association of Women Police the I.A.W.P. 2010 conference on Septeber 26th-30th. In partnership with Minneapolis Police Department, committments have been made to partner in hosting the conference from Saint Paul Police, Bloomington Police, Ramsey County Sheriff Department and Hennepin County Sheriff’s. Whether you work for one of these agencies or not, if you would like to assist in the planning or help in anyway please contact M.A.W.P. Former President Mylan Masson at Mylan.Masson@hennepintech.edu
